The Redesign was by far the biggest challenge for me this semester, and yet, it was my favorite. We were to take a design for an anything of our interest, and recreate it to fit our interpretation. Not that I am a fan of smoking cigarettes, but old advertisements are very interesting to me in so many ways. Cigarettes were so popular in the 1950's, and now they are considered tacky and detrimental. It was a clear choice to use a vintage ad and put a modern and personal twist on it. This draws back to how in this day of technology, everything we do is a rendition of something someone else has once published. A main focus of mine was to always keep in mind how this would function rhetorically, as it was intended mainly for an older audience. Before submitting the final design, I wanted to test the reactions that my intended audience would have. As a bit of an experiment, I posted the rendition on my Facebook account for a day. To my surprise, followers of all ages commented, liked, and shared my post. The reactions were typically humorous, as my older followers caught on to the puns in the text, and applauded my "millennial" vision of an outdated fad. There is a saying that typically college seniors like to post,
"Last one, Best One"
It really does adhere to this final assignment of the semester. The redesign challenged me to use elements of redesign such as Photoshop, which I am very unaccustomed to, and I was glad to take on the challenge. It was rewarding in so many ways. I posted the redesign on social media, and got feedback in ways I would have never expected, and it actually helped me out professionally. The boss of my company would have never seen my creative side if I were not to post openly, but thanks to Facebook, he offered me a position as the new social media intern. This final assignment really did combine all aspects of my life.
